One Reason Why

I have been asked to write a small article for the website to give you all an insight into the reason behind supporting the charity. My name is Garry and I’m the bass player in the rock band SPARTAN, my wife Margaret was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago and I’m glad to say is in very good health at the present time. Our lives changed drastically due to the illness and because of the support and kindness offered from the charity I decided to give something back to the people who helped us when we needed it.
During Margaret’s
treatment I read an article in the Consett and Stanley Advertiser asking for
participants to help in boosting funds for the Stanley branch of Cancer
Research who were planning a sponsored walk. Without a second thought I was
on the phone to register and dragged my sister in to help ( safety in
numbers ), after the event I still felt there was more that I could do and
after speaking to Jean Shipley managed to secure a slot for my band to
perform at the Stanley Fun Day they had planned. The day was a great success
and we enjoyed it so much that we offered our services for any forthcoming
events the charity had planned, I must say a big thank you to Kev, Mick and
Phil the other members of Spartan who have always supported me in my charity
work without a second thought.
I must also say a
huge thank you to my loving wife Margaret, even during her illness and
treatment she has supported my every need to give something back and due to
her strong mental attitude has shown me the strength to do the same for
others affected by cancer. So now you all know that one person can make a
difference, now it’s your turn. Many of us are aware of someone who has been
struck by this illness and together we can present a united front against
the disease, by making more people aware of the help and support that
organisations such as this one can provide to all.
